Mallorca is a very well established property market and has a very good selection of estate agents with a large and varied array of property for sale in Mallorca. So there is no reason to settle for an inferior agent. There are many small, often, one man band outfits, some with a fine reputation, others are not so reputable. The same applies to the larger, multiple office. Sometimes international companies, a large office and a large staff do not automatically guarantee a good reputation
So, if you have a property for sale in Mallorca, or you are looking for a property to purchase on the island, where should you start? A good starting point is the internet, not specifically to look for your dream home, but to look for an agent. It is not particularly practical, to search for your own property, especially if you do not have very large amounts of time to spend driving around villas or trying to read the phone number on the twelfth floor of a block of condo's.
The best way to start your search is to look up property forums for the island, either on Google or Yahoo!. You will find several sites related to property for sale in Mallorca, then start reading through the posts. These posts are from real people, who have bought and sold on the island, and have real experiences to talk about, the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Spending a few hours on these forums you will quickly pick up an idea of the companies who have a less than stellar reputation.
Now you can start to cross off those who are known to be poor performers, or just not reputable. You will find others that have probably already asked the question, 'Where is a good place to find property for sale in Mallorca. You will then find companies that people recommend, although this is not as reliable as looking for disreputable companies. You should be able, with a little practice, to sift through the obvious 'plugs' for friends, or associates or even downright self advertising.
Next you could ask the question, 'has anyone had a property for sale in Mallorca, (perhaps at a specific town you are interested in), and can they recommend and agent?" Again, you are laying yourself open to outright promotion, but there is also a strong possibility you will be able to 'talk' with someone who has a genuine experience, who may be a great help to you. You may be surprised how many 'British expats are aware of all the bad stories and are determined that it not happen to other newcomers.
